DODS:Providing Direct Access to Distributed Research Data Resources
DODS Direct Access Distributed Data Resources
2015/8/14
Many exciting advances in oceanography are occurring because of the data being acquired from newly developed instruments and observing systems. However, the volume and diversity of the data being gene...
Distributed Information Services in Marine Science: MareNet—The Network of Marine Research Institutions and Documents
MareNet Marine Science
2015/7/31
MareNet is a new online information service and presently one of the largest and most complete portals for marine science. We report here on the present status of MareNet and describe its concept as a...
Growing a Distributed Ocean Observatory: Our View from the COOL Room
Growing a Distributed Ocean ObservatoryCOOL Room
2015/7/3
The Rutgers University (RU) Coastal Ocean Observation Lab (COOL) is an enduring product of the National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP). The key to its longevity is the academic, industry, an...
The Influence of Distributed Sources and Upwelling on the Baroclinic Structure of the Abyssal Circulation
Distributed Sources Baroclinic Structure Abyssal Circulation
2008/12/12
The study of a simple, continuously stratified model of the abyssal ocean driven by upwelling out of the abyss into the main thermocline and by source fluid entering the basin through northern, wester...
Valuable mineral resources are widely distributed throughout the seabed. autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are preferable to remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs) when probing for such mineral resources as the extensive exploration area makes it difficult to maintain contact with operators. AUVs depend on batteries, so their power consumption should be reduced to extend exploration time. Power for conventional marine instrument systems is incorporated in their waterproof sealing. External intermittent control of this power source until termination of exploration is challenging due to limitations imposed by the underwater environment. Thus, the AUV must have a power control system that can improve performance and maximize use of battery capacity. The authors developed such a power control system with a three-step algorithm. It automatically detects underwater operational states and can limit power, effectively decreasing power consumption by about 15%.
surface piercing propeller boundary element method hydrodynamic characteristics
2008/3/25
Demand for high-speed marine vehicles (HSMVs) is high among both commercial and naval users. It is the duty of the marine vessel’s designer to provide a hull and propulsion system that diminishes drag...
Patterns and regulation of dissolved organic carbon: An analysis of 7,500 widely distributed lakes
Patterns regulation dissolved organic carbon 7,500 widely distributed lakes
2007/4/22
Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is a key parameter in lakes that can affect numerous features, including microbial metabolism, light climate, acidity, and primary production. In an attempt to understan...
